• Things You Need When Preparing For A Cheerleading Competition

With the excitement of getting ready for cheerleading competitions it can be easy to forget a detail or two, so it is important that you make a list of everything that needs to be done and mark the items off as you complete them. Coaches should be sure to have a cell phone with them if possible, as this will make it easier for them to be updated of any changes in cheerleading information, as well as being able to contact family members of the squad if necessary. All contact information for squad members should be updated periodically as well.

A first aid kit is also a good idea. Naturally, the National Cheerleading Association requires that these and other medical supplies be on hand, whether at a competition or a cheerleading camp, but having your own kit is great for some problems requiring only band-aids, etc. Be sure that you replace anything that is missing or old in the kit and add items if necessary. Make sure that you have all of the necessary paperwork like medical forms with current information as well.

Bringing a video camera to cheerleading competitions is a good idea, as the whole routine can be taped and viewed later by everyone. Those directly involved with the competition may be too busy to catch everything so you may want to consider asking someone else to do make the cheerleading videos. Another vital part of competitions and something you do not want to forget is the music; bringing extra music is always a good idea as well.

Naturally, you want to be sure that all members of the squad have their cheerleaders uniforms clean and ready to go, as well as any makeup and accessories that will be needed. Even if you plan on applying before leaving for the competition there is a good chance that you will need a touch up prior to your performance.

For cheerleading competitions the uniform includes several items other than just the shell, skirt and cheerleading shorts; you will also need your socks and shoes, making sure they are cleaned and white, along with hair bows that you may be wearing. It is also important to bring along some kind of healthy snacks and a water bottle, as it is important that you remain hydrated and full of energy. It will more than likely be a fairly long day.

Cheerleaders are great at motivating the crowd into cheering for their home team. But there is much more to cheerleading than that. If you want to learn more about aspects of cheerleading such as cheerleading camp visit Cheerleading 101.
